Thatcher
In the wake of Margaret Thatcher's death earlier this month, video has emerged online of a speech she gave at a Conservative Party Conference in October 1987, the year before her government introduced Section 28 legislation which forbid teaching in any school that homosexual relationships were acceptable.
Says Thatcher in the clip:
"But it's the plight of individual boys and girls that worries me the most. Too often, our children don't get the education they need, the education they deserve....Children who need to be taught to respect traditional moral values are being taught that they have an inalienable right to be gay....All of those children are being cheated of a sound start in life. Yes, cheated."

harrison-fordThere’s already a controversy brewing over Ender’s Game, with some saying gay rights supporters should boycott the movie due to the fact it’s based on a book by the decidedly anti-gay Orson Scott Card, who actively works against the extension of LGBT rights in the US.
However not everyone involved with the film agrees with Card’s views, as Ender’s Game star Harrison Ford has stepped forward to voice his support for gay marriage. Ford made the comments while talking about his new movie 42, about the first black Major League Baseball player.
Metro New York reports that he compared Robinson’s struggles to gay marriage, saying ”I think there’s a metaphor you can reach for, according to your own interests and your own understanding and your own issues. But trying to create the best expression of the ideals — the most equal society, the best-regulated society, the best-behaving society — depend on attending to equality and inequity whenever it rears its ugly head. Certainly the marriage issue conveniently falls into that category.”
He adds, “Things do change quickly at a tipping point, as it builds and it builds and it builds until there’s a moment where the balance of opinion, the weight of experience and the understanding comes to a point where the scales tip in the other direction. “We’re getting there, we’re getting there. You know, you would hope that it would have happened with less resistance. You would have hoped that everyone would get the point at the same time, but life’s not like that.”
Whether Ford’s views will mitigate the anger many already feel at Ender’s Game is yet to be seen.

Matt R. Salmon, the gay son of Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ), sat down with Anderson Cooper last night to talk about his father, who has spoken publicly of his opposition to same-sex marriage, and his mother, who worked on an anti-gay constitutional amendment in Arizona, about his love for them.
AcSaid Salmon:
"I finally realized that no matter what our differences and opinions are, we have to love and support each other. And since then, our relationship has really grown stronger. And I've watched as my dad has just really been a huge supporter of me....Yes, he doesn't support gay marriage, but that's no reason that I shouldn't love him, or just accept him for who he is. I hope that he changes his position" on marriage rights for same-sex couples."

wolverine-teaser-poster3A new, rather cool, international poster for The Wolverine has surfaced, showing Hugh Jackman’s mutant wielding a samurai sword and looking generally badass.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern-day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.’
The movie is out in July.
And as we’re here, take a look below for another new The Hangover Part III poster, which is the fifth we’ve had just this week!

Joel-McHaleA couple of month ago it was revealed that Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are getting together for a third time for a currently untitled new rom-com. They’ve now got some company as Joel McHale has signed up to star in the film, according to THR.
The movie is about a man and a woman who have a horrible first date and then find themselves stuck together at a resort with their respective children from previous marriages. McHale is set to play Drew Barrymore’s immature and skeezy ex-husband, although there’s no info on exactly how he fits into the plot or how big the role is.
Frank Coraci is set to direct, with shooting due to begin in a few months time.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones doesn’t open until August, but Sony Pictures must have a lot of faith in it, as they’re already planning a prequel, with THR reporting that Stephanie Sanditz has been hired to script an adaptation of the first novel in Cassandra Clare’s related series of books, Infernal Devices, which is called Clockwork Angel.
mortal-instruments-city-of-bones-poster3The Mortal Instruments is about a girl who learns of her half-human, half-angel heritage, who gets thrust into the war between light and shadow. Infernal Devices is set in in England during the Victorian Age ten years after the peace treaties between the demon-fighting Shadowhunters and Downworlders (vampires, fairies, werewolves, and warlocks) was signed. Clockwork Angel begins the story of Tessa, an orphaned teenage girl who is looking for her brother, who has disappeared, and seeks her true identity.
Her search plunges her into a world she never knew existed, and reveals talents she never knew she had. She must forge an alliance with Shadowhunters if she wants to survive in this dangerous world.
Of course this film will depend on the success of Mortal Instuments, but it certainly seems that there are big franchise plans.

rob-cohenRob Cohen’s attempt to get more serious with Alex Cross didn’t turn out particularly well, so it seems the xXx, Fast & The Furious and The Mummy 3 director is heading back to lighter fare with Crash Bandits, according to THR.
The film is about two rival treasure hunters who specialise in salvaging plane wreckage. When they hear about the Holy Grail of plane wrecks in the Amazon, the set off on a race to see who can get there first. Michael Stokes wrote the original script, although Rob Cohen will perform a rewrite.
The project has been around for a while as it was previously in the works with John McTiernan attached to direct and Hayden Christensen set to star. However with McTiernan having major legal troubles over allegations of lying to the FBI, that fell apart.

riddick-vin-diesel-shirtlessAlthough most people have tried to forget The Pacifier, director Adam Shankman and star Vin Diesel must have had a decent time making is, as they’re re-teaming for The Machine, according to Deadline.
The movie is about a human-like robot (Vin Diesel) that the U.S. government creates in hopes it will become the perfect weapon, although the project ultimately gets buried. 20 years later, a young boy discovers the machine and reactivates it. When the government comes to shut The Machine down once and for all, the robot protects the family that took him in.
Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant wrote the original screenplay, with Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar signing on to rewrite the script last July. There’s no news on when it might shoot.

FILE - In this Friday, April 12, 2013 file photo, two men hold hands as they pose for photos in front of a portrait of the late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, right, and his son Kim Jong Un at a flower show featuring thousands of Kimilsungia flowers, named after the late leader Kim Il Sung, in Pyongyang, North Korea. Enemy capitals, North Korea said, will be turned “into a sea of fire.” North Korea's first strikes will be “a signal flare marking the start of a holy war.” Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal is “mounted on launch pads, aimed at the windpipe of our enemies.” And it's not all talk. The profoundly isolated, totalitarian nation has launched two rockets over the past year. But there is also a logic behind North Korea's behavior, a logic steeped in internal politics, one family's fear of losing control and the ways that a weak, poverty-wracked nation can extract concessions from some of the world's most fearsome military powers. (AP Photo/Alexander F. Yuan, File)To the outside world, the talk often appears to border on the lunatic, with the poor, hungry and electricity-starved nation threatening to lay waste to America's cities in an atomic firestorm ...
