ISIS executed four of its top commanders in a public square in Mosul on Wednesday, according to multiple sources, including Bas News, a Kurdish news site. The commanders reportedly were convicted by a Sharia Court for high treason on June 22nd and hanged in Mosul the same day, according to media reports. The executions follow the hanging or beheading of 21 ISIS commanders since April and the executions of scores of ISIS fighters charged with desertion or collaborating with Iraqi Army agents.

Signs of Insurrection in Mosul as ISIS Executes Top Commanders - Report: Elite ISIS foreign fighters leaving Mosul

President Obama defended his refusal to name “radical Islam” as a threat by saying he didn’t want to legitimize terrorist claims to a religious war, but critics say it is part of a pattern of denial and deception when the administration explains its dealings with the Muslim world.
The knee-jerk decision to redact references to Islam in the Orlando shooter transcripts was the latest attempt by the Obama administration to edit or hide information about Muslims or Islamic governments.
Similar moves began as soon as Mr. Obama took office with the deletion of “radical Islam” from the government’s anti-terrorism playbook and was repeated from classifying the Fort Hood shooting as workplace violence to blaming the attack in Benghazi, Libya, on a YouTube video and dismissing the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria as the “JV team.”

The same mindset appeared to be at play when the Obama administration brokered secret side agreement to the nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran and then erased video of State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland denying it at a 2013 press conference...

Obama sidesteps ‘radical Islam’ in quest for alternative explanations for terrorism

______________________________________

On its last day of work, the outgoing State Duma passed one of its most draconian pieces of legislation to date: a controversial antiterrorism bill that effectively turns Russia into a nation of suspected criminals.
Brian Whitmore
June 27, 2016

M.N.: For Russia, it is a historical tradition. But what about the U.S.? Do we become "a nation of suspects and informants" also? Or is this a part of the larger Russian plan: to deprive America of its Liberty and to turn it into a police state?

If it is indeed a part of the calculus, this social and psychological warfare device is rather primitive and ineffective: just an illusion of enhancing the one country's security by making "them" (the "enemy"), the "others" similar to you, "like you", "closer" to you, less threatening. The problem is that this "similarity" almost always remains just what it is: an illusion.
However, the interim damage and effects might be not insignificant.
"A mushrooming surveillance state" and a fall in a mutual social trust, "intra-public trust", "self-trust" and "self-esteem" and even, to a degree, doubts and ruminations about the identity of the country were the effective aftermaths of 9/11 as a psychological warfare operation. These effects deepen further with each consecutive large-scale terrorist attack, the wound never heals.
This vicious cycle has to be broken, of course; but how? Which is a new, separate and the yet unwritten and even unconceived story.

At a recent meeting of U.S. ambassadors from Russia and Europe in Washington, U.S. ambassadors to several European countries complained that Russian intelligence officials were constantly perpetrating acts of harassment against their diplomatic staff that ranged from the weird to the downright scary. Some of the intimidation has been routine: following diplomats or their family members, showing up at their social events uninvited or paying reporters to write negative stories about them.

But many of the recent acts of intimidation by Russian security services have crossed the line into apparent criminality.
