(Reuters) - McDonald's Corp reported a slight rise in first-quarter profit on Friday, as sales at established U.S. restaurants fell 1.2 percent in a tough environment.
Stock futures rose, helped by broad gains in overseas markets and a rebound in commodities prices, as investors digested mixed results from a number of blue-chip companies.

This has certainly not been a dull week in capital markets. The intraday investor has been exposed to just about everything. As of Friday, we have a commodity market that is telling the investor that global growth is slowing. A U.S. equity market, financed by cheap money, continues to signal that the American consumer is somewhat in the driving seat when it comes to stock prices. And finally, the European sovereign market appears to be convinced that domestic Japan is about to embark on a global shopping spree. All cannot be true; a couple of these markets will eventually have to back down. The only cert that investors should cling to is that any realignment of these asset classes will not be smooth.
McDonald's reported slightly higher earnings and revenue for the first quarter, but sales trends were weak and the fast-food chain's profit margins declined.

Shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. and Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. gained in premarket trade on Friday as IBM shares declined.
