Russian police on Thursday raided the headquarters of the Skolkovo Foundation – an agency headed by billionaire Viktor Vekselberg that is charged with building a science and innovation hub championed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev – as part of a continuing investigation into the alleged embezzlement of 24 million rubles ($758,000) of government money.
President Barack Obama was in attendance Thursday at an interfaith service in Boston in memory of the three people who were killed in Monday's Boston Marathon bombings and in support of the more than 100 injured.
Stocks continued their slide, led lower by the consumer-discretionary and technology sectors, after a raft of uninspiring earnings reports provided investors with little reason to buy.
Morgan Stanley saw its core results weaken from last year, but exceed Wall Street expectations. Revenue from bond trading slid.
BB&T and Fifth Third Bancorp reported lower first-quarter earnings while a third regional bank, KeyCorp, saw profit and revenue rise. Improved credit quality helped buoy the banks' results.
